Drinking Water Supply for Stadtoldendorf

Stadtoldendorf - Oktober 22. On Tuesday, the water supply in the Lower-Saxon town of Stadtoldendorf near Hameln broke down. Because of the significant contamination of the water, THW was called into action to set up a drinking water purification plant. THW-volunteers made the purification of two water reservoirs of the local supply company possible. At the moment, the reservoirs are being filled with purified water. The reason for the contamination is not yet clear.

On Sunday, turbidity of the water was detected. In the course of the following days, strong quality fluctuation occurred. The reason why is still unclear. In order to remove chemical and biological contamination, the operators added chlorine to the water. Furthermore, the affected population had to boil the water. When the plant could not filter out the contamination any more, THW was asked for help.

Since Tuesday, four THW local sections have been operating. They set up a drinking water purification plant and delivered water for the purification and disinfection of the two water reservoirs. Since Wednesday, the volunteers have filled the water reservoirs with 100,000 litres of drinking water each. Additionally, they provide a daily amount of 30,000 litres of water to the residents. A laboratory technician of THW regulary checks the water quality.
