THW Sends another Team to Haiti

Bonn – January 14. Today, on Thursday, a Rapid Deployment Unit Water and Sanitation Abroad (SEEWA) of THW is leaving for Haiti. Ten experts in drinking water and infrastructure take with them mobile drinking water treatment plants, mobile laboratories for water analysis and equipment for the repair of the water infrastructure. The purification plants can produce about 6,000 litres of drinking water per hour, which allows the supply of up to 30,000 people with water. The THW experts will explore further mission options on site. The heavy earthquake, which happened on Tuesday, has destroyed large parts of the infrastructure on Haiti.

THW Taking Stock after Low “Daisy”

Bonn - 11 January. Over the weekend, more than 650 voluntary THW-helpers nationwide dealt with the impact of low “Daisy”. “Contrary to anticipations, low “Daisy” has not lead to chaos over Germany. Focus of THW’s mission was on the north-east of the Republic. Sadly, there were a good amount of drivers who, in spite of severe weather warnings, had headed for the roads. On the A20 alone, THW rescued 170 people from their cars who, because of the snow, were trapped“, summarises THW-President, Mr Albrecht Broemme. THW’s local sections were active on Fehmarn, in Kassel or in Neuenburg on the river Rhine to support the authorities who had asked for help.
